Work Experience

I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Strategic Communications from Oklahoma State University in 2015. I am proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, Google Suite and other programs. My skills in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop, and Microsoft Excel, are particularly strong.

In 2015, I was hired as the Graphic Designer at Oklahoma City Indian Clinic (OKCIC) and the position quickly transitioned into a Communications Specialist role. In early 2023, I was promoted to Senior Communications Specialist. I had been handling senior-level responsibilities for a few years without the title prior to my promotion. My regular job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Graphic design with Adobe Creative Suite (primary) and Canva (secondary) with emphasis in the below media needs
    • Events/programs/services fliers, posters, brochures and more

    • Annual Red Feather Gala invitation, program and any other design material
    • Logos

    • Directional messaging
    • Print/web publication examples are located here
  • Coordinate design and print criteria with publishing partners, with the major publications being the biannual HORIZONS magazine (45+ pages) and the Annual Report (70+ pages).
  • Project management with teams across multiple departments at OKCIC and outside entities
  • Facilitate virtual meetings that engage attendees. I have effectively worked in a primarily remote/hybrid environment for the past three years.
  • Support onboarding of new hires within my communications team. This includes, but is not limited to, directing the new hire on who to contact for any needs, detailing necessary wording for campaigns, editing written content and graphic design, coaching on and supporting “tough” conversations with coworkers, and helping with transition tasks for their success.
  • Crisis management
    • I helped coordinate ongoing messaging for a cybersecurity attack that OKCIC received in March 2022. The communication plan used various mediums to reach patients, including emails, social media and more. My team and I were responsive to any communication needs that occurred due to the breach. This messaging included, but is not limited to, loss of all data for patients through a certain time period and the necessity of the steps the clinic took post breach.
    • I assisted our team with the hybrid transition during the COVID-19 pandemic, including creating graphics, messaging, video content, problem solving and more.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure messaging is consistent and accurate
  • Assist and delegate communication with stakeholders, staff and patients through various platforms, including:

    • Facebook’s Workplace for staff communication
    • Email
    • Phone and video calls
    • In-person
    • And more

  • Coordinate communication needs and press releases with media across Oklahoma
  • Assists in event coordination and planning throughout the year with numerous departments at OKCIC, including:
    • Annual Red Feather Gala hosted by our communications department, which serves over 600 attendees each year. This event is hosted every November and honors a leader in the American Indian community, has a presentation of Native dancers, live painting by Native artists, as well as a silent and live auction.
    • Annual Health Fairs for five or more targeted audiences, including Children, Men, Women, Elder and Walk for Wellness. These health fairs have extra curricular activities appropriate for each age group and raffle prizes to entice patients to attend the special day. At the event, patients receive their necessary and preventative health screenings and immunizations.
  • Website management
    • I am the primary staff member at OKCIC who keeps all the information current, concise and consistent within okcic.com. When necessary, I communicate with our website hosting platform for problem solving.
    • I am currently leading OKCIC’s website redesign with support from my communications team utilizing a third party company to improve the usability of the site.
    • WordPress is the primary website editing tool I use, but I have dabbled with others and find them similar and feel confident I could adapt to any of them.
  • Photography
    • I do all of OKCIC’s event photography, including professional headshots for staff members who require their photos on our website or any other professional events.
    • Examples of my photography can be found here.

In 2014, I participated in a six-week internship at the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Washington D.C. I handled a variety of tasks that emphasized my skills in design and communication. I created presentations for a program the bureau was implementing that year and communicated them in a manner for any knowledgeable presenter to personalize it and/or teach it.

I also worked for Oklahoma State University’s school newspaper, the O’Colly, as the photo editor from August 2014 to May 2015. I began as a photographer and videographer at the newspaper in August 2013 and then rose to Photo Editor. My duties as Photo Editor included managing a staff of 12 photographers, editing photos and deciding which photos were published. Along with my other duties, I was tasked with managing a photography database and keeping it organized. During my tenure, the O’Colly won Best Collegiate Newspaper from the Oklahoma Press Association in 2014.

I am a quick learner and pick up concepts, programs and methods easily. I am able to adapt my skills to the needs of the position and organization to enhance their brand image and reputation.
